Both of our hospitals are located in attractive surroundings which have something to offer for all interests.
Both hospitals are surrounded by gardens inviting you to stay outdoors. At the same time, however, Sonneberg hospital is centrally located on the periphery of the town centre. The Neuhaus hospital is situated directly on the edge of a forest with a marvellous view across the hills of the Thuringian Forest.

Sonneberg, situated on the southern slopes of the Thuringian Forest, is well-known for its history in toy production, which still lives on today. The German Toy Museum is famous far beyond the boundaries of Sonneberg. The picturesque landscape around Sonneberg is certainly worth a trip. Many excursion destinations draw walkers, hikers and nature lovers into the outdoors.
Neuhaus is located on the ridge of the Thuringian Forest in the middle of attractive surroundings.
The traditions of slate construction and glass-blowing are still continued today. Glass baubles and figures from neighbouring Lauscha have become world famous. At its altitude of 835 m, Neuhaus is also an ideal starting-point for hikers and winter sports athletes, not least on account of "Rennsteig", probably the most famous high-altitude hiking trail in Germany.

Though not as well known in the UK as it deserves, the Rennsteig is without doubt the most famous Long Distance Path in Germany. Dating back to before 1000, it was both a border and an important road linking Thuringia with northern Franconia. You will see many intriguingly carved old border stones along the path. Much of the route follows the main ridge of the Thuringian Forest. Once you have climbed up the ridge during the first day or two of the walk, there is little climbing and you can enjoy a classic forested ridgeway. Much of the central part passes through a nature reserve; almost all the rest is still through protected countryside.

Thuringia - the "Green Heart of Germany" -  is an ideal starting-point for day excursions. Well-known towns such as Nuremberg, Munich, Bamberg, Rothenburg, Erfurt or Weimar, the home of Goethe and Schiller, are within easy reach. In particular, the Christmas industry (glass baubles, all-year Christmas markets) in the direct vicinity, world-famous middle-age town centresand not forgetting the wonderful nature have the right excursion destinations available for every taste.
