The traditions of slate-mining and glass-blowing are still being cultivated today. Particularly the glass balls and glass figures from the adjoining Lauscha have achieved world fame. Furthermore, Neuhaus with its altitude of 835 m is an ideal starting-point for friends of hiking and winter sports, not least thanks to the Rennsteig which probably is the most famous high-altitude walk in middle Europe.
